Toys and Games
- Yearbook Photographer Becky-- Mattel's second-generation
Becky doll, Barbie's pal in a wheelchair. Still available if you look.
- Paralympic Champion Becky-- Becky's hitting the tracks
at the 2000 Paralymic Games in Sydney! Barbie's friend on wheels comes this
time in a sporty racing wheelchair. Accessories include racing helmet, water
bottle, towel, and, of course--gold medal.
- Sign Language Teacher Barbie-- This Barbie has one hand
permanently molded into the American Sign Language symbol for, "I Love You."
The doll comes with plasticized, reusable stickers showing diagrams for forming
many common signs, and a "blackboard" for mounting the stickers. A ToysRUs
exclusive.
Fisher-Price Little People School Bus-- This
classic toy we all remember has been upgraded to incorporate the ideas of
inclusion and accessible transportation. The school bus now includes a back
door that folds down into a wheelchair ramp, (back door includes stickers for
the "wheelie man" ISA) and a school chum passenger who uses a wheelchair. The
ramp is a bit steep to allow for the little fellow to take a zoom down it
without tumbling out of his chair, but the toy is a nice idea anyway, and we
commend Fisher-Price for showing "kids like us" going to school with everyone
else.
- Little
Tikes Playhouses-- Two models feature whole wall sides that open to
allow access for children--and parents!--in wheelchairs. See the Victorian
Mansion and Patio Playhouse models. (Note: We are unable to link to
specific models; the link shows all models of playhouses on one page.)
"Ethnic Doll" from Multicultural Kids--
These cute rag dolls come in a variety of skin tones and hair colors, and can
be outfitted with a variety of assistive devices, including wheelchairs,
hearing aids, white canes, guide dogs, crutches, braces, and more.
